The Zombie Apocalypse Walk is the culmination of zombie bootcamps being held at the city’s four library branches.
Children will create zombie characters, learn some deathly make-up tricks and practice their zombie walking and groaning for a truly authentic zombie experience.
“The library’s Holiday Fun program allows kids to expand their minds by exploring different ideas,” city librarian Keryl Collard said.
“Kids have the opportunity to make floating lanterns, explore space, discover science and test their knowledge of all things Dr Who, just to name a few of the exciting activities taking place.”
Kids can put these skills to use on the Zombie Apocalypse Walk on Saturday.
Meet at Maitland City Library dressed as a zombie and join the walk through the Heritage Mall to Reading Cinemas, where zombies can enjoy a screening of the movie The Boxtrolls for $10.
Every library branch will host lantern-making workshops, where kids can make lanterns to float on the Hunter River during Maitland’s iconic Riverlights Multicultural Festival, which will take place on Saturday, October 11.
Kids can explore all things spooky at Rutherford Library on Thursday engage their brain in a battle of the brainiacs at East Maitland Library on Tuesday, September 30, test their knowledge of all things Dr Who at Maitland Library on Wednesday, October 1, and enjoy a wacky Alice in Wonderland tea party at Thornton Library on Saturday, October 4.
