Daniel Benjamin Smith, of Scenic Drive, pleaded guilty to high-range drink driving in Maitland Local Court yesterday after he attempted to drive about 11.10pm on August 23.
Court documents said police saw a silver Ford Falcon sedan accelerate to about 100km/h as it travelled toward Maitland on Cessnock Road at Gillieston Heights.
The car slowed to about 70km/h before it accelerated again. Police caught up to the car and signalled for it to pull over, which the driver did after turning right into Scenic Drive.
Smith underwent a roadside breath test and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.190.
The 24-year-old told police he drank six beers from 7pm to 11pm. Smith’s solicitor said his client’s journey would have been about 800m.
The matter was adjourned for Smith to attend the traffic offender’s program. He will be sentenced on November 10.
