Police stopped Allan John Bamford, of Aberdare Street, on Old Maitland Road in Sawyers Gully on August 13.
Bamford, 47, told police he was using his phone. He returned a negative result to a breath test, however police said he appeared nervous
They asked if he had any drugs in the vehicle or on him and he said no and offered to let them search the car.
Police found 1.07 grams of amphetamines in Bamford’s front pocket.
Bamford’s solicitor told the court his client acquired the drug days before from a friend and hadn’t used any of it.
The court heard he had intended to use them to recover from a cold.
Bamford’s solicitor said his client had an extensive record but no drug convictions, and this was an isolated incident.
He pleaded guilty to drug possession in Maitland Local Court yesterday and was fined $150.
