Thornton finished with the wooden spoon last season but Dent expects much better results from his troops this time around.
“I’m expecting a much better result compared to last season with new blood in both firsts and seconds,” Dent said.
“It’s just going to be a new look ones team as last season wasn’t good enough,” Dent said.
One of those to arrive at Thornton is Matthew Gabriel (University – Newcastle) who returns to his junior club to link up with brother Jono and father Peter.
Also adding to Thornton’s depth will be former clubman Chris Archer (Newcastle City and Suburban), former Stockton player Rick Mace (Nelson Bay), Jono Momsen (Wallsend) and the Thomspon brothers, Matthew and Elliott (University – Newcastle)
Gabriel and Momsen are batsmen, Archer and Matthew Thompson are bowlers while Mace and Elliott Thompson are all-rounders.
These players will help solve a few problems according to Dent and the captain was pleased with their trial performance against Newcastle opposition.
“Our trial game against Cardiff was promising,” Dent said.
“There will be at least six new first graders and good young juniors with no injury concerns.”
Injury hampered Dent’s squad before a ball was even bowled last season but Jake Reeves (finger) will be fit to start 2014-2015 along with young gun Jamie Krake, who scored his maiden top grade century last summer, dangerous opener Joel Mulder and all-rounder Matthew McLaren.
Thornton failed to win a game last season despite going close on a number of occasions, including round 12 when they declared at 9-244 and Eastern Suburbs were 0-10 in reply before day two of the fixture was washed out.
