A man who broke into two Kurri Kurri units in 2012 and stole money, car keys and a packet of Tim Tams has been sentenced to 13 months jail.

Vaughn Leech, of Hamilton South, pleaded guilty to attempted break and enter with intent and stealing property.
According to a police statement, Leech entered a unit in Railway Parade some time before 2am on March 25, 2012. He stole car keys, a packet of Tim Tams and the victim’s wallet, which contained $440 and a number of cards .
About 2am Leech, 28, woke the victim’s next door neighbour who was asleep on the lounge when he tried to open the screen door.
The woman pulled open the curtains, saw the man and screamed, causing Leech to run away.
Police arrived and found blood on the door mat as well as the first victim’s wallet.
A sample of the blood was sent for DNA analysis.
Leech, who was in custody for other offences, was taken from Cessnock jail to Newcastle police station on May 20 this year, where he was charged with the new offences.
