However, the real concern is who will operate and run the hospital.
The NSW government will not come clean about this issue. The government continues to run the line that the new hospital will “offer” public hospital services.
Such statements leave the door open for a private hospital to operate the new hospital.
This distinction is important and the longer the government ducks and weaves, the more suspicious the community deserves to be.
We need a new hospital at Maitland that is public and not some hybrid public/private partnership where the profit motive exists behind the provisions of health care services or where a shareholder becomes just that bit richer every time someone breaks a leg or is diagnosed with a chronic illness.
We don’t want an Americanised health care system.
