It’s also a great way to raise awareness about men’s health and some money for the Movember charity.
Blooms The Chemist and Maitland Comedy Club will co-host a Stand-Up for Movember event on Friday night at The George Tavern Green Hills.
The idea for a comedy night was the brainchild of pharmacist Stephane Bredenbac, and pharmacy supervisor Luke Reckwell said the event was an opportunity to make a tangible contribution to a good cause.
“This is our fourth year running it and we’ve partnered with the comedy club to take it to a new level. It will be our best one yet,” Mr Bredenbac said.
Stand-Up for Movember will be the first event to enlist the talents of the Maitland Comedy Club as established event organisers and comedians.
The club’s central figure JB said he was happy to throw his hat into the ring for Movember.
“We’re donating a great comedian, Matty B, to keep up a variety of entertainment and basically polish up the run sheet,” he said.
“It’s going to be an awesome night with something for everyone – it’s going to be really slick.
“I personally feel it’s for a great cause too, men put more care and concern into our cars than our health.”
Mr Reckwell said the goals for the evening had evolved somewhat.
“Originally is was only about raising money and, while that’s still a central goal, we’re really dedicated to raising awareness now,” he said.
Mr Reckwell said money could only be of limited value if the culture surrounding men’s health was not improved and Friday’s event is a way to help drive such a change.
The $25 ticket includes the comedy show, a drink on arrival, finger food and a chance at the lucky-door prize.
$10 from each ticket will be donated to the Movember initiative for men’s health.
Guests are encouraged to dress to impress with a splash of blue.
The event starts at 7pm. Tickets are available The George Tavern or phone 4933 3222.
