“It is pleasing to hear reports from Rutherford residents that the odour issues are abating,” EPA Hunter manager Adam Gilligan said.
“The EPA has been working with the community, industry and the Rutherford Air Quality Liaison Committee to address issues around the Rutherford Industrial Estate,” he said.
“The work co-ordinated via the committee and other work undertaken by the EPA has resulted in a range of regulatory actions and many of these are ongoing.
“At its October meeting, the committee reviewed progress of actions and was satisfied the major milestones had been achieved and that it no longer needed to meet formally.
“It was further agreed the EPA will continue to monitor the situation and provide six-monthly updates to the community on our website, along with information and reports regarding the Rutherford Odour Investigation Project: www.epa.nsw.gov.au/rutherfordcttee/index.htm
“If odours are detected in the Rutherford area, these should be reported to the EPA Environment Line on 131 555 for investigation.
“It is important to have an accurate record of exactly when and where any odours are occurring to help with identifying trends and possible sources.”
