Jing enrolled as a student at Maitland Grossmann High School in July last year and has received the outstanding academic award for her year 11 studies.
“When I first came here it was actually quite hard for me because I couldn’t speak a lot of English,” Jing, 19, said.
“I had also left my family behind in China, but I’ve come along way.”
In China, Jing attended a selective school with high demands.
She describes her life in Australia as more balanced.
“There are more activities at this school and it’s not just about study and it’s quite good,” Jing said.
Jing will visit her family during the school holidays and return to Maitland to continue her Higher School Certificate studies for 2015.
She plans to become a statistician.
“I want to go to university here in Australia and after that I haven’t made any real plans,” Jing said.
