Northern NSW First Division sides the Thornton Redbacks and Cessnock Hornets have been pitted against one another in the opening round of next year's FFA Cup.

The two clubs were featured in the official draw, which was released on Thursday morning just two days after Adelaide United were crowned the inaugural FFA Cup champions following a 1-0 final win against Perth.
Thornton and Cessnock will clash on the weekend of February 21 and 22, with the winner progressing to meet the victor between Tenambit and Medowie.
Also in action in the first round will be Kurri Kurri and Beresfield, taking on Mayfield and West Wallsend respectively.
Other first up rivalry matches include Valentine up against Lake Macquarie, Singleton battling Muswellbrook, Belmont tackling Belmont Swansea as well as both New Lambton entities facing off.
National Premier League outfits Weston and Maitland have been given the first round bye.
Weston will have either Cooks Hill or Barnsley in the second round while it will be Westlakes of Kahibah for Maitland.
