The 30-year-old striker, who finished at HVGS in 2002, was one of four Perth Glory players selected despite the W-League minor premiers’ 3-1 upset loss to Canberra in Sunday’s final.
Only three players from the newly crowned W-League champions were included, with Canberra grand final hero Ashleigh Sykes and teammates Ellie Brush and Michelle Hayman invited to attend the January 12 to 15 camp.
The training camp at the Australian institute of Sport will be the first of 2015 for Australian coach Alen Stajcic in the lead-up to the World Cup in Canada from June 6 to July 5.
The Matildas have been drawn in a difficult Group D – alongside USA, Sweden and Nigeria – and have their work cut out to make the knockout stages.
Stajcic, who did not find a place for dual international Ellyse Perry, said players from outside his training squad could still play their way into contention.
“I’ve had a good look at all the players throughout the Westfield W-League season and I am happy with the group of players that I have selected for this camp,” he said. “There is a balance of youth and experience in the squad and it will be a good starting point for our intense preparation period.
“This is by no means a final squad, as there are number of players returning from injury who are still in contention for selection.”
There was strong representation from the Brisbane Roar (eight) and Sydney FC (seven).
The Newcastle Jets flag will be flown by Emily van-Egmond.
Gill, a former Jets player, has 83 international caps next to her name after debuting a decade ago and was part of the Matildas Asian Cup win in 2010.
