The newspaper has thrown its weight behind a push to encourage 10 local businesses to each
donate $1000 to next month’s Maitland Mercury Hunter River Super Show.
The Hunter River Agricultural and Horticultural Association needs the funding to break even for those attractions featured in the centre ring.
“If we don’t get the money for these attractions, then the show will run at a loss,” association operations manager Amanda Winney said.
“We know people are hurting financially and we understand that, but it’s difficult to deliver what we want to deliver when we are so restricted.”
Ms Winney said sponsors would receive benefits including free show tickets and a space to promote their business at the event.
“By sponsoring the show businesses are supporting a community event,” Ms Winney said. “And this is an event that was started more than 150 years ago by Maitland people and we want to promote that.
“We want to create an area where people can come to celebrate our agricultural ties.”
This year’s five major sponsors are O’Neills Tyres, The Mutual, the Maitland Mercury, The Burton Family of Maitland Toyota and Hunter Ready Mixed Concrete.
The show will be held on February 20, 21 and 22.
