Friday night saw Mackay’s new kennel addition Megan Keeping ($3.50) jump from box eight to win and qualify with a time of 30.04s, coming off the back of a win at Maitland the week prior.
The following night saw the running of six National Derby heats, and again Mackay’s dogs featured.
In the fourth heat Zipping Carter ($6.80) avoided trouble out of box three to come home in 29.78s, the third fastest time of the night, with the win the dog’s fourth in its past five starts.
The fifth heat saw kennel mate Zipping Oscar ($4.40) overcome a minor kidney complaint and lack of race fitness to record Mackay’s second win of the evening.
After 11 wins in a 14-start career, Zipping Oscar will also be expected to feature strongly in next week’s semi-finals.
The semi-finals for both the Derby and Futurity will take place at Wentworth Park, with the final for both nationwide events on February 7.
