Having won three of her past five starts, Mackay’s Zipping Midge ($6.20) avoided trouble out of box three to score a half-length win in the third Futurity semi-final of the evening.
The black bitch will now line up in the $75,000 final out of box six, but will have difficulty overcoming odds-on favourite Spring Leaf, which will jump from box one.
In the third National Derby semi-final Mackay had Zipping Carter ($4.50) out of box eight.
While the black dog finished second, nearly five lengths off winner Bad Boy Sniper ($4.20), the track-best 29.73 seconds was enough to qualify for the final.
Both finals will take place at Wentworth Park this coming Saturday night.
Mackay also had success on Thursday evening at Maitland, where Zipping Tyrone ($2.80) broke through for a maiden win in race one, while Zipping Sonny ($2.20) made it four victories from eight starts in race three.
Elsewhere on the 10-race program, Sawyer Gully trainer Terry Priest’s Wild Judy ($12.40) scored an authoritative six-length win in race seven, a Showtime Cup Heat.
In the following race, Lochinvar trainer Louise Mcgee had Nippers Babe ($13.90) get up at similar double-figure odds, narrowly scoring by three-quarters of a length.
Heddon Greta trainer Daniel Fearnley’s Full Of Wind ($4.90) was another to impress ahead of next week’s final, winning the fourth and final heat of the evening.
