And it bothers her.
“I love watching Frozen and Elsa is my favourite but she’s not like me, none of them look like me ... but I wish they did,” she said.
Karley, along with her mother Kim, have joined a groundswell of supporters calling for Disney to feature a hero or heroine with Down syndrome in one of their movies.
Their call follows news of an American couple who started an online petition that urges the animation movie giant to introduce more characters with the syndrome.
The petition has attracted in more than 84,000 signatures since its launch in October.
“Every little girl wants to be a princess whether they have a disability or not,” Mrs Moran, of Paterson, said.
“Our kids feel and have these moments of excitement just like everyone in the community.
“People with Down syndrome may have an intellectual disability, but behind every face there is some amazing talent.”
At age four, Karley, now 17, took to the catwalk to compete in Model For Life, she takes dance classes, swims competitively and has a flair for drama.
“People like Karley [now in year 12 at All Saints College, St Mary’s Campus] don’t have any inhibitions, which enables them to create and be whoever they want to be,” Mrs Moran said.
“Being supported in a worldwide Disney production would provide advocacy that would facilitate pathways to support many people with Down syndrome.
“More barriers need to be broken down for love and acceptance. Disney needs a person with Down syndrome, especially a princess.”
Disney has responded to the petition by saying: “The Disney brand has always been inclusive, with stories that reflect acceptance and tolerance and celebrate the differences that make our characters uniquely wonderful in their own way.
“We remain committed to continuing to create characters that are accessible and relatable to all children.”
Then this from Karley: “I would love to see a Disney character that looks like me.
“That would be amazing.”
