It was fitting this year that the breed with the largest number of entries, Poll Herefords, should dominate the interbreed classes.
The breed took out four of the six titles with the senior interbreed bull going on to win the supreme beef exhibit of the show trophy.
All of the Poll Hereford entries came from the Wile family’s Hunter Lakes Poll Hereford stud, Millfield.
The supreme exhibit came from the 20-24 months class Hunter Lakes Tsunami, a Merewah Typhoon son who will be heading to this year’s Sydney Royal in March.
In a very strong senior female class, four outstanding females paraded all with calves at foot. The champion ribbon went to Hunter Lakes Shamrock, a three-year-old daughter of Merewah Highlight.
Hunter Lakes also exhibited the champion interbreed group of three.
Junior champion interbreed bull was a Limousin exhibited by Karinne Gelderman, Berdihold stud, Lochinvar - Berdihold Kash aged 10 months.
The Laurie family, Knowla Livestock, Gloucester showed the junior interbreed female of the show. Their Angus entry Knowla Jedda K14 is a daughter of Duncan Gabba.
On the first day of the show a very successful juniors cattle clinic was held with 170 competitors in the junior judging section and more than 100 paraders battling it out for top honours and the chance to go on to the Sydney Royal for the finals of the competition.
Jamie Grosser, a student at Tocal College, Paterson, was named champion parader.
Overall champion steer on the day was shown by Sarah and Travis Worth.
Champion school steer was a Speckle Park cross Murray Grey exhibited by St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton.
