It is a therapeutic and healthy way to spend time and growing edible plants does not have to be on a large scale.
Pots, planter boxes or even on old wheelbarrow can get you started.
Plants for the edible garden will be a new feature at Maitland Taste in The Levee this weekend.
Growing demonstrations will be held on Saturday and Sunday at noon and 12.30pm in the demo marquee.
John Priestley will talk about bio dynamics and organics at home while Karen Griffin from Heritage Gardens Nursery will talk about plants for the edible garden.
Heritage Gardens owner Olivia Bramble said Taste visitors will see a range of common and not so common herbs for their edible garden.
“Karen has selected a number of herbs and plants to show visitors,” Ms Bramble said.
“Dill and sage are common herbs but then there are herbs such as French tarragon, the curry leaf tree and tea plant camellia which are not so commonly known and can be used at home.”
Dwarf citrus, collecting berries off the bush and everything else you can grow at home will be part of the demonstration.
