For the past seven years, Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc have been given office space at Benhome Home for the Aged, for which they have paid a minimal rent and no office costs.
But Volunteers for Palliative Care was also facing uncertain times with political changes to NSW Health, co-ordinator Judith Robinson.
Benhome will be redeveloped shortly, with its staff moving off the premises during the construction phase.
“We are not being asked to leave Benhome, but we must be proactive and we are trying to avoid a crisis by looking for new premises now,” Ms Robinson said.
“A lot of changes are going on now for non-government organisations under the Health Department and this is an added concern for our service in these uncertain times.
“This is probably the biggest challenge we have ever faced.
“We are very grateful to Benhome Home for the Aged, which has been a wonderful partner over the years.
“We believe between $13,000 and $15,000 is the extra cost we now face for renting commercial premises.
“This is higher than anything we have yet had to face and we really need some help.”
Ms Robinson said they would also like to hear from any organisation who might like to share premises with them.
“We are working towards redevelopment here now, otherwise Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc would have been very welcome to stay,” Benhome CEO Neil Sutherland said.
