Volunteers with the charity collected $8371 last year at the Maitland Harvest Markets gates and have resumed the mission this year.
“It’s a lot of money from people’s loose change,” Maitland Harvest Markets social media and content marketer Kylie Wiblen said.
The markets are held each Saturday morning at Maitland Showground.
Volunteers with buckets ask patrons for a small donation at the Evans Street gates from 8am until 11am.
“We have a lot of regulars who support the charity on the gates,” Ms Wiblen said. “Without the markets we wouldn’t have this great way of raising money.”
It costs $880 on average to send a child to camp.
The gate donations have paid for about 10 sick children to attend the camp and receive support from the respected Camp Quality team.
The markets are a forum for farmers and food artisans to sell their produce and share their stories with customers.
Ms Wiblen said Camp Quality was a cause that resonated with Maitland Harvest Markets and the ideals of the organisers.
“The Harvest Markets are a community service and we in turn like to give something back,” she said.
