Since broadening its focus from an annual National Youth Week event into a festival that attracts people of all ages, Swamp Stomp has seen an increase in community group involvement.
“It’s better than it was two years ago,” Woodberry community facilitator Nicole Cooney said.
“We had a few extra people in the community involved and have seen nearly 1000 people today.
“There were lots of families and lots of young people came up for the skating demonstrations and urban art workshops.”
Swamp Stomp included markets, a free barbecue, live entertainment, playgroups and amusement rides.
“The markets were a hit with the older people in the community and we had some really fabulous performances,” Ms Cooney said.
“We had Woodberry Public School and the Samaritans Early Learning Centre perform, and DJ F3RGO, Sabella Gibson and the Red Belly Blacks dance group here.”
Ms Cooney said this year’s Swamp Stomp, the seventh in its history, was enjoyed in the right spirit.
“The vibe here was really, really friendly,” she said.
“People were helpful and kind to each another.
“Nothing went wrong with our day.
“It just shows that Woodberry has a really strong community spirit and a strong heart.”
