In the space of two days one of the Australia’s leading street artists – Mr Skel – has painted three images of Les Darcy at the entrance to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery.
Simply titled Les Darcy, the stenciled artwork is a welcome addition to the existing Darcy collection inside the gallery.
“This has been a wonderful opportunity for us to get an image of Les Darcy outside the gallery,” gallery curator Kim Blunt said.
“And Mr Skel has been very excited about bringing Les home.”
An architect, Mr Skel has more recently found joy in discovering the world of hidden spaces.
“He wants to put colour where people see beige,so he uses the spaces in between to create hidden treasures,” Ms Blunt said.
The images of Darcy have been created using five layers of colour.
“It’s been a lot of fun to see all the activity out the front of the gallery and in the end we have something wonderful.”
