So council is seeking the thoughts of older Maitland residents on how it can promote positive attitudes to ageing in the community.
To this end, the first of a series of discussions will be held in the courtyard area of Marmook & Poom Poom’s in High Street, Maitland, on Thursday, April 23, from 5pm.
“Council also wants guidance on how to support our older residents to lead healthy, active and independent lives,” community planning co-ordinator Mary Dallow said.
“Council will be providing many opportunities for people to tell us what they think.
“This can be done by completing a survey, or attending one of the planned discussions, which will take place until the end of April.”
Council hoped to identify opportunities and challenges of an ageing population and the impact this will have.
“An ageing population has a lot to offer any city and we want to know what we can do,” Ms Dallow said.
“The idea is to develop a strategy to manage the situation and to promote a positive attitude so council can support the older residents.”
These were a very diverse group of people with a variety of life experiences.
“We want to speak to these members of our community, to allow them to share their knowledge and ideas,” Ms Dallow said.
