During this time, we saw a number of examples of bravery from our firefighters, paramedics, SES and a range of other emergency servicemen and women. They certainly deserve credit for stepping up to the plate when we needed them most.
I am writing to thank a group of often unsung heroes; the men and women of the Hunter Local Land Services. During the floods, Hunter LLS delivered over 20 tonnes of fodder to 1800 cattle, 480 horses and 12 camels.
They provided helicopter support to ferry food to over 50,000 stranded chickens. They helped landholders remove more than 500 dead livestock.
Without LLS’ hard work, many farm businesses in the Hunter would have been absolutely devastated with their produce succumbing to starvation and disease.
There’s no doubt that lots of our local farmers suffered badly from the effects of the storm and there’s plenty more work to do to get them back on their feet. But there is also no doubt that it would have been a lot worse without the LLS team on the ground.
