This year’s event was cancelled only days before it was supposed to be held because of safety concerns following the April superstorm and flood in the area around Tocal Agricultural College.
The event has been confirmed for April 29, 30 and May 1, next year.
Tocal Field Days manager Wendy Franklin said this year’s event had been highly anticipated, but the weather conditions meant that cancellation had been the only option for organisers.
“This hit everyone hard; organisers, stallholders, all the diverse number of stakeholders involved in bringing together such a large and diversified three day rural community event,” she said.
“In fact it’s the first time in the 32 year history of Tocal Field Days that the show hasn’t gone on.”
Many suppliers and stakeholders, such as Coates Hire and the JWN Group, have discounted their 2015 services or offered extra clean up support to Tocal at no charge.
While exhibitors were disappointed by the cancellation, many were happy to carry over their site costs to next year’s event.
Companies such as Earthsafe Group, Native Animal Trust, Landmark and Discount Tractors and Trailers have already committed to Tocal Field Days, 2016.
Landmark spokesman Joe Paksec said he welcomed the event organisers’ decision earlier this month to refund or hold over site costs for stall holders to next year.
“Unfortunately, a late decision regarding the integrity of one of the access roads was made that would force event organises to cancel Tocal to protect the safety of the community,” he said.
“Like so many other exhibitors and the field day organisers we had already committed 100 per cent to the event and were extremely disappointed with the timing of the decision given the impact of set up costs and loss of trade.”
