Almost 30 residents met with Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison yesterday to discuss the super storm and to advocate to have the road at Testers Hollow raised.
More than 2000 people have signed a petition to have the area raised as a way to stop Gillieston Heights becoming an island during floods.
Residents at the meeting voiced their frustrations about the lack of organisation and emergency processes when the they became marooned in April.
“Cars were nearly swept off the road at Testers Hollow, but when I rang the local police station they didn’t even know it was flooded,” petition organiser Sonia Warby said.
Residents also had issues working directly with organisation such as the SES and Salvation Army.
They plan to formalise their community group so at times of crisis it can work directly with government and other agencies.
An emergency plan will also be created for the area.
