The club had wins against five other clubs from across the Lower Hunter throughout March and April.
Team manager June Evans said it was a big achievement that would pave the team’s way to the state carnival – if they could defeat Stockton, Newcastle’s district champions.
“They key to this win was being able to rely on the support offered by each player,” Mrs Evans said.
“Each player has a role to developing the winning shots and we could each depend on the others to make the shots they needed.
“We had the drive, the dedication and the compatibility,” she said.
It’s been over 20 years since a Beresfield women’s team qualified for the state carnival.
Beresfield also established a grade 4 pennants team in order to expose developing players to external competitors. Despite not topping their grade, Mrs Evans said Grade 4 exhibited a fighting spirit.
“Des Skinner, our president, has been very supportive of the ladies and focussed on growing our membership,” Mrs Evans said.
“He opened the bar and gave us our drinks all afternoon after the win, it was brilliant.”
Mrs Evans said the team would focus on positive thinking and remain dedicated to practice in the lead up to the state qualifying round.
“I’ll fly back from a holiday in Cairns specifically for the match. Everyone in the team is as dedicated as me,” she said.
The next round, against Stockton, will be held at Kurri Kurri Bowling Club on Tuesday, July 7.
