She will be a leader.
The 14-year-old from East Maitland will captain her side in Tasmania from this weekend after being appointed by coaching staff during their final training camp at Cessnock on Friday.
It was an unexpected call up for duty but one the year 9 student at Hunter Valley Grammar School said she was looking forward to.
“After we finished the session the coaches called me over and asked if I would like to be captain,” she said.
“I didn’t think it would be me and it was quite overwhelming but I told them yes and they announced it to the team.”
Green already has some experience as a skipper, taking the reigns of her under-16 Maitland Mustangs girl’s side in the Country Premier League.
Not only that but Green will be a senior player in the NSW Country side, being the sole player in the 2015 squad to attend last year’s national championships in Geelong and return with a gold medal.
“I’m the only one who went away last year so a lot of the girls have been asking me what they need to do and what to expect,” Green said.
“I’ve also had to help the girls get through because one of our best players, who also played last year, went down injured and can’t play this time.”
Green expects the week-long campaign at Ulverstone, which begins with a game against Victoria Metro on Saturday, to take a different approach under Newcastle coach Todd Turner.
Green said Turner, who has previously worked with boys’ teams, steered the NSW Country under 16s to a gold medal last year.
“The style of play is much different,” Green said.
“It has been much more intense and we have a lot more direction in offence.
“It means we aren’t too worried about what anybody else does, but if we can execute what we do than hopefully we can go well.”
More recently Green has been recruited into the National Performance Program, which has included training programs with weights and shooting charts.
