The April super storm, which threatened to delay the estate’s first stage of civil works, caused damage to the school.
“Local contractors [Daracon] have been fantastic in achieving project milestones within our timeline,” DHA managing director Peter Howman said.
“Thanks to their work, we have been the lucky ones, but we thought we would share this good fortune with the rest of the community.”
Fifty defence children attend the school and this will soon grow to an estimated 100 pupils when the development is finished.
The storm felled a large tree that damaged a slippery dip and monkey bars.
“This cash injection will enable the children to get back on the equipment again sooner rather than later,” school principal John Millburn said.
Work will soon start on the first Wirraway homes at Thornton now the first 50 lots have been prepared.
The first families are expected to move in during the Christmas period.
Wirraway will have 450 new homes with an equal balance between defence families and civilians.
The development is expected to contribute more than $145 million to the economy through the employment of builders and the purchase of goods.
