Grants up to $1000 are available for local events or activities, while grants up to $5000 will be awarded to larger events that focus on next year’s Seniors Week theme, Healthy Living.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald encouraged community groups to apply for the grants to help fund next year’s celebrations.
He said Seniors Week was the Hunter’s chance to celebrate the substantial contributions that seniors made in the community.
“These grants are a great way to help fund an event for NSW Seniors Week to help Hunter organisations show their appreciation for seniors and encourage them to actively participate in their local community,” Mr MacDonald said.
The government has allocated $200,000 seed funding for community groups, volunteer organisations and councils to host events during the 2016 festival.
It will be held between April 1 and April 10, 2016, and is the largest festival for seniors in the southern hemisphere, with more than 300,000 seniors participating in events across NSW each year.
Visit www.nswseniorsweek.com.au to apply for funding before applications close at 5pm on September 4.
