I know The Levee project has filled the area with negativity due to delays, a major storm slowing things down and heated debate about the final product – but after all this negativity, I hope excitement will start to build.

On Friday – a glorious sunny day – I was lucky enough to spend a day in The Levee working with one of my clients. I took advantage of the opportunity to stroll through The Levee.
I walked past the workmen doing a great job finishing the project, but I walked through with a positive mindset, thinking about the place full of families in the future, locals and visitors to our great city.
Grabbing a sandwich, I headed to the riverbank for a relaxing meal and to say I enjoyed the vista is an understatement.
Connecting the river to The Levee with phase two of the project will be amazing.
Sitting by the river with the understanding I am the president of our city’s business chamber, an organisation that played a big role in having the government add Maitland to the Resources for Regions funding, made me proud to be a part of something bigger that will greatly benefit our city.
With the warmer weather starting and work on phase one coming to a close, I encourage all from Maitland to wander the city centre, take in the change, grab some lunch from a local business, and head to the river.
Take in where we live and contemplate what will be once The Levee is truly connected to the river.
As mentioned, the chamber played its role in securing funding with advocacy programs aimed at getting an outcome for Maitland and now I am calling on all business people in our LGA to gather in October to brainstorm what is next.
So as you sit by the river taking in the view, start to think about what’s next.
Then do something about it.
Bring it to the chamber forum, join the movement and help shape the future for our city.
Save the date – October 21 – and participate in an event that will help shape the future of the city.
