And in many ways she was. But unlike other little girls Addy, 5, has been forced into a fight she has no chance of winning.
And therein lies the difference.
Friends and family of the Clements family gathered at Tenambit Tavern on Sunday to raise money for the little girl as she faces her final days.
“This has all been extremely heartwarming but the support isn’t completely surprising because Addy has touched the hearts of so many people,” Addy’s mother, Rachael Clements, said.
“And it is brilliant, and means so much to us, that so many people want to empty their pockets for her.”
Just months after receiving a bone marrow transplant – expected to save her life – Addy, of Tenambit, has been dealt the cruellest blow of all with a particularly aggressive leukaemia invading her body.
Although the Clements family hasn’t been given a definitive timeframe it is believed Addy has only weeks, possibly a month, to live.
“She’s relying on constant platelet transfusions at the moment but she’s holding out OK at the moment,” Mrs Clements said.
“We’re just taking each day at a time but we plan to make the next few weeks as happy and fun filled as we possibly can so that her final stay with us is as happy and carefree as possible and make many more memories with our baby girl.”
There are now more than 3000 followers on the Unicorns for Addy Facebook page.
