All Saints College, St Peter’s Campus, Maitland, last featured in the final four of the under-15 interstate football knockout competition in 1999.
They were beaten in the decider by Figtree, the same side South Coast opponents St Peter’s defeated to claim the prestigious title 11 years earlier.
Now, this current crop of players will look to reclaim the silverware for the first time since 1988 and make their own history down at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility.
“We have talked a lot about those campaigns this week,” St Peter’s coach Phil Peate, who oversaw both of those sides, said.
“We have a lot of history in this competition and it’s good to see the boys do well again this year.”
Peate said the class of 2015 was a talented squad made up of mainly National Premier League players from Maitland, Weston, Hamilton, Broadmeadow and the Newcastle Jets Youth.
St Peter’s accounted for Mount View (6-0), Kurri Kurri (5-1), St Joseph’s, Aberdeen (7-0) and St Joseph’s, Lochinvar (4-1) to clinch the Hunter title.
They then overcame Gosford 3-2 in the round of 32, followed by title holders Hunter Sports High 2-0 at Lorn Park.
Their latest outing was a 1-0 quarter-final victory against MacKillop College, Port Macquarie.
Next up, St Peter’s face Westfields Sports High in Tuesday’s semi-final (5.30pm) before meeting either Ipswich Grammar or Maribyrnong College, depending on results, in the final or the play-off for third on Wednesday.
Bill Turner Trophy (girls) play-offs will also take place across both days.
Players and officials from all eight participating squads will attend a civic reception at Warners Bay on Tuesday morning (10am).
