The Jets kick-off their campaign against the Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand this weekend and new Jets coach Scott Miller has not yet named his first starting side of 2015-2016.
This includes the goalkeeping position, which has Kennedy pitted against fellow gloveman Mark Birighitti once more.
Kennedy, who made his Jets debut in 2006-2007, has been going head-to-head with Birighitti for the previous three seasons.
Kennedy was named Jets player of the year in 2011-2012, but Birighitti went ahead in the pecking order upon arrival the following two summers.
The popular local had the job between the sticks in the last campaign and played 21 matches after Birighitti announced he was leaving on a six-month loan deal with Italian Serie B club A.S Varese.
Kennedy said the new season promised a fresh start for him and the Jets squad, so whichever way Miller decided, he would be keen to contribute when necessary.
“It’s a new season, a new squad and a new coach, so everyone is keen to get out there,” Kennedy said.
“Hopefully I get the nod, but if not I’ll be prepared to make the most of my chances and help out wherever I can.”
The Jets lost matches, players, coaches, staff and an owner in a dramatic three-month period earlier this year and Kennedy doesn’t want that repeated.
“Hopefully we don’t see any of that again,” he said.
“We want to put all of that behind us and start fresh.”
Part of that approach has come from manager Miller, who has brought home a few tricks from his time overseas with English Premier League club Fulham as well as being Australian fitness coach.
“He [Miller] has brought in a few different things that he learnt from England,” Kennedy said.
“The pre-season has been good, it has all been positive and now the boys just want to get into it.”
The round one fixture starts at 5pm (DST).
The Jets are at home the following Saturday against Sydney FC.
