Gravity Indoor Trampoline Park opened in Rutherford Industrial Estate this week. The owner Darren Taylor made a commitment to help the region’s youth unemployment crisis.
“Given the region’s high youth unemployment we specifically targeted young local people to give them some experience,” he said.
Mr Taylor set up the centre on the corner of Hinkler and Bradmill avenues at a cost of about $700,000.
The centre features 90 trampolines that cater for everyone from infants aged 18 months to grandparents. It also includes a dodge ball area, games centre, slam basketball space, a cafe and games area.
Mr Taylor said the main feature of the centre was the largest airbag in Australia, which was imported from Austria at a cost of $70,000.
“Instead of jumping into a foam pit which can be dangerous and unhygienic, customers can hit the airbag, which is a much safer alternative,” he said.
The airbag measures 15 metres by 6.5 metres.
“We chose Maitland to open the business because of the area’s demographic and high growth rate,” Mr Taylor said.
“There are a lot of young families here and the centre will also meet the needs of families in the Upper Hunter,” he said.
