Shane Robert Winton, 44, from Anzac Street, was fined a total of $1100 and disqualified from driving for six months after he pleaded guilty to a range of charges.
On August 5 this year, the owner of a white Nissan was inside a house in Anzac Street when she heard a loud noise outside, the court was told.
“Winton had been driving a red Holden Commodore in the street when he lost control and drove the vehicle into the Nissan,” according to police papers tendered to the court.
His car impacted so heavily with the Nissan that it rolled onto its roof and the vehicle was extensively damaged.
A witness told police he saw Winton driving the Commodore.
Immediately after the impact, “the witness saw Winton reverse and drive away along Anzac Street,” the papers said.
He made no attempt to give his details to anyone.
When police found Winton, he proved positive to a breath test and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.077.
The court was told Winton’s car had been unregistered for three years – since November 17, 2012.
A second offender for driving with low-range prescribed concentration of alcohol, Winton was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for six months.
For negligent driving, he was fined $300 and disqualified for three months.
The disqualification periods were to be served concurrently for an effective period of six months.
Winton was also fined $200 for driving an unregistered vehicle and $200 for driving an uninsured vehicle.
The court was told he did not think he was over the limit at the time and he knew he had mucked up.
Damage to the Nissan was given as $5000 and Winton was trying to sell things to pay for it, the court heard.
He had made full and frank admissions to the charges.
