The event was a message of support for the White Ribbon campaign to stamp out violence against women.
Students came out of uniform and were fined for wearing casual attire, with all of the money raised going to the White Ribbon organisation.
The event also prompted important discussions about domestic and family violence within the school community.
“A lot of kids in the school are exposed to it, not necessarily in their own families, but within the community,” child studies teacher Lyn Wicks said.
“With most students on social media they definitely know of it and most are quite aware of it.”
Ms Wicks said the school event created a safe and open environment for students to share their personal stories of domestic and family violence that gave their peers an insight into the devastating effects it had on a young person.
“They found confidence in sharing their personal experience, it was very rewarding” she said.
Students were given information on how to report violence and on which agencies they could go to for help, both within and outside the school community.
The students raised $400 throughout the day. White Ribbon Day was on November 25 and marked the start of 16 days of activism to stop violence against women.
