Motorists have been given a summer reprieve at Maitland’s petrol bowsers as the city was consistently ranked in the state’s top 10 cheapest locations to buy unleaded fuel in January.
The price of fuel dropped as low as 99.9c/l in Maitland on Thursday.
NRMA figures, released on Monday, showed that Maitland had climbed to third place on the list, with an average price of 106.7c/l for the week ending January 31.
It was little more than two cents more expensive that the cheapest average fuel price in NSW last week, which was at Wollongong where fuel was 104.2c/l.
Newcastle recorded an average price of 114.0c/l, at 14th place, and Singleton ranked 29th, with a price of 120.2c/l.
The previous week, an average price of 111.7c/l put Maitland at seventh place. The city was in eighth place a week earlier and sixth position for the week ending January 10, after it began last month at eighth spot on the table.
