At least that’s what Mr Moran said he hoped it would do.
In a bid to “win back the heart” of his sweetheart, Mr Moran from Rutherford ducked into a supermarket and chose the dark scarlet flower from among a host of other blooms.
Then he raced out to the car park and presented the rose to his beloved Kellie Swan, who is also the mother of his four-year-old son.
“I’m sorry darling, I miss you dearly,” Mr Moran said as he presented the rose to Ms Swan.
“We’ve had a break and I want Kellie back,” he said.
“I just want us all to be back together again.
“I’ve never given Kellie a Valentine’s Day flower before.”
Ms Swan said she was very surprised to receive the rose.
Would she forgive her partner on a very special day?
“It is a lovely surprise and I will forgive him – for today,” she said.
Buying Valentine’s Day flowers was also a first for Daniel Scott from Bolwarra.
“I bought them for my girlfriend Melissa Daniels and we have been together for six years,” he said.
“I hope she likes them.”
Diamonds were also much sought-after as presents, Tahlia Howard from Hunter Family Jewellers told the Mercury.
“We sold diamonds in all sorts of settings, especially rings and the lead-up to Valentine’s Day has been very good,” she said.
