Hunter MP Joel Fitzgibbon has asked the Senate to initiate an inquiry into the flying fox problems in the Hunter.
Mr Fitzibbon has urged the committee chair, Senator Glenn Sterle, to visit Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton.
An estimated 10,000 bats have taken up residence in Cessnock on a reserve and Singleton’s Burdekin Park has been the centre of controversy for years.
"The effect that bats have on the lives of local people needs to be seen to be believed," Mr Fitzgibbon said.
"I am really concerned about the situations in some schools where I believe the health of young children could be at risk.”
