The 14th Maitland Environmental Youth Forum will be presented with support from Hunter Resource Recovery and Local Land Services Hunter with previous events being well attended by local primary and high schools.
Maitland City Council’s Manager of Development and Environment David Simm said the forum aims to encourage and inspire students and teachers to help protect the environment.
Recycling, fire management, biodiversity, weed identification and mine rehabilitation will be topics of discussion, with opportunities for participants to meet and speak with people who work in these fields.
Participants are also encouraged to express their ideas and concerns about local, national and international environmental problems throughout the forum.
Environmental presentations and workshops will be held throughout the day, presented by a range of businesses and organisations including Hunter Resource Recovery, Blackbutt Reserve, NSW Rural Fire Service, Maitland City Council, Department of Primary Industries, Wetlands Environmental Education Centre, Hunter Bird Observer’s, Local Land Services Hunter, and Riverdene Nurseries.
The event will be held from 9.30am until 2.30pm on Thursday 5 May. Schools must register with council in advance to attend and participate in the day’s activities.
