More than 1000 runners and walkers are expected to tread the picturesque course along the Hunter River and through the Levee on Sunday, May 29.
Hunter and Sydney based mid distance runners will also be lining up for the feature race which is a unique “street mile” (1609m) running a race through The Levee.
Hunter and Sydney based mid distance runners will also be lining up for the feature race which is a unique “street mile” (1609m) running a race through The Levee and along the top river walk of Maitland.
Event organiser Paul Humphreys said that with a large number of normal flat events in the state, there was a growing interest in running events that offered participants more than a flat tarred road to challenge their running development and have fun.
“The event continually attracts a wide range of participants, including those new to the sport of running, who are just looking to have fun and be healthy,” Humphreys said.
“Many are using the event as a goal to test out their newly acquired fitness either in teams with their fellow gym members or training groups.
“Also lining up again are some of the best runners in Australia, gearing up for one of the few Street Miles run competitively.”
Humphreys said there were also a large number of runner/walkers wanting a goal event to work towards.
He said participants can fund raise through the event fundraising portal for their selected charity, with Riding for the Disabled one of the official event charities doing this.
The main course will be 4km long and include parts of the The Levee, Cathedral Street, and the river bank foreshore walk ways and western end of High Street.
There are 4km, 8km, 12km and a multi-race 24km events this year.
