The final concrete slab has been poured on the bridge deck.
Now the focus will turn to putting the finishing touches on the $45 million project, which began in August 2013.
It is expected that the overpass, near Maitland railway station, will open to traffic in the second half of the year, weather permitting, the NSW Roads and Maritime Services said.
“With the final concrete pour now finished, other work can now be carried out to help finish the overpass including the installation of bridge parapets and street lighting, asphalting the road surface as well as completing the road approaches at either end of the bridge,” a spokesman said.
The project was part of $51 million allocated to the RMS to improve traffic flow and motorist’s safety between the roundabout near Maitland railway station and the roundabout near Maitland hospital.
The overpass is expected to provide more reliable travel times, improve the roundabout’s capacity and improve pedestrian and cyclist access.
“The new eastbound overpass will carry two lanes of traffic above the roundabout on Church Street and bypass the flood plain in this area.” the spokesperson said.
“Roads and Maritime will continue to keep the community informed of future work times, dates and any required road closures as work continues.”
