Smith’s run of good luck started in race four with Lochinvar Dash winning the Classic Bet Premium Betting Stakes over 400 metres on Thursday.
Smith made it a double when Lochinvar Amour was first past the post in race eight, the $2950-to-the-winner Ladbrokes Monthly Medal over 400m.
Then Lochinvar Brogue won race nine, the third heat of the Showground In House sprint series over 450m, to bring up a well-deserved hat-trick.
Lochinvar Brogue wasn’t the fastest of the three heat winners but the way in which he won will likely make him the early favourite for Thursday’s final.
The son of Collision and Lochinvar Vogue was only slowly away from box two and had to do a lot of work around the bend before running down the Betty Keene-trained Top Order to win in 25.5s.
Tardy box manners and race interference have cost Lochinvar Brogue dearly in his 10 race starts but he has now won his past three, including a sizzling 29.42s maiden win at Gosford.
The brindle dogs looks well suited on the wide open spaces of the Maitland track where he can stay out of trouble early and wind up on the long run to the finishing post.
In the first heat of the Showground In House sprint series He’s A Gunna franked his maiden win from a week earlier with a six-length win in 24.42s.
The son of Spring Gun and Wiradjuri Girl began well from box eight and took control on the bend to beat the Keith Jarvis-trained Remember Ross (25.84s). The Barry Evans-trained Frosty Moments ( 25.91s) was third.
The third heat went to the Andrew Bell-trained Zipping Harry in 25.56s. The son of Magic Spring and Pink Bandanna was first away from box one and led throughout to beat the Rex Jones-trained Jody Fly (25.88s) with the Mark Moloney-Trained Salina Fire (25.91s) third.
See you all at the track on Thursday for what promises to be an exciting final.
