Liberal Paterson candidate doesn’t live in the electorate
I have just learnt that the Liberal candidate for Paterson, Karen Howard, doesn't even live in the Paterson electorate. She lives in Merewether, which is in the electorate of Newcastle. That means she can't even vote for herself. How strange is that?

Common sense should prevail in Largs shopping centre debate
After reading your article on a proposed neighbourhood shopping centre at Largs and Cr Humphery's concern on safety issues with nearby schools. First, Maitland City Council identified and adopted 15-20 years ago a need for neighbourhood shops at Largs to service the people of Largs, Council's general manager David Evans may have been the chief planner at the time.
In relation to Cr Humphery's concerns, I would like to draw attention to a very busy Tenambit neighbourhood shopping centre where across the road is a childcare centre approved by council, you also have nearby Tenambit Public School with 700 students, to my knowledge of living nearby for the past 55 years there have not been any accidents involving school children.
In fact, it is very convenient for parents when collecting there children from school to use the shopping centre to pick up a few items like bread and milk. The proposed site at Largs for a shopping centre is ideal and convenient for the people as far as roads are concerned, wide roads, something Tenambit shopping centre do not have. Common-sense should prevail in the decision making of this proposal in the interests of all the Largs/Bolwarra people.

Testers Hollow isn’t the only place that could use federal funding
Well I read your story on Labor promising money to fix Gillieston Heights’ flood problems. Will he also give money to Bolwarra, Woodville, Largs, Hinton, Wallalong, Duckenfield to name a few areas that also get land locked in flood times? And don't tell me it won't happen again - this is a large dish that we live in. So Gilleston residents don’t forget you chose to live in a large dish are the size the rest of us have to accept it. So stop your whinging and get a grip.

Re: Terry Byrne 1955 flood letter (June 20)
Utes mentioned were in front of court house NOT post office. Washed away when river broke through where Belmore Bridge now enters High Street, one ute contained valuable communication equipment. About 70-80 RAAF personnel marooned in court house night of Friday/Saturday (25th/26th February). Copy of newsreel footage available, contact SES community engagement coordinator Amanda Hyde at amanda.hyde1@one.ses.nsw.gov.au. Also the Maitland Flood Walk app covers the court house area with about 38 photos of 1955 flood, one of which shows a ute being salvaged. Those of us involved in 1955 flood will never forget the magnificent work done by the Williamtown RAAF personnel when we were in desperate need of help.
