More than 165 people registered for the Newcastle leg of the event, contributing more than $25,000 for prostate cancer research and male suicide prevention and mental health programs.
Mark Hawwa founded the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride – or DGR – in Sydney in 2012, after being inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper atop a classic bike, wearing his finest suit.
It attracted more than 2500 riders across 64 cities worldwide. This year’s event attracted more than 50,000 riders in at least 500 cities to reach a target of $5 million.
“We are just blown away,” Mr Hawwa said.
“It’s fantastic to see so many different countries and cultures uniting together to raise awareness and to offer the much needed support toward global prostate cancer research and suicide prevention programs.”
