Recently I have been going over the numbers of our membership and the benefits that the members gain and it is clear that different businesses join the chamber for different reasons. We have members who are active in the executive and members who attend every meeting. We have members who want to contribute to Can Do every issue and some who jump in and out according to the cycles of their business.
Basically chamber membership gives you access to:
- Maitland chamber meetings
- More networking opportunities
- Legislation updates
- Access to business hotlines provided by the NSW Business Chamber such as awards/IR advice
- Discount schemes with energy programs
- Access to information and schemes to assist with information on export
- Ability to actively promote your business
- Access to Hunter Chamber events
- Most importantly you are working with local people passionate about Maitland
Reviewing the metrics has made it clear that our members are not taking advantage of all of the benefits of membership. The question is: do members understand the benefits or do they want something different? As an executive, we are putting together a questionnaire to try to gain an insight into what our members want from membership.
In Chamber Week, we will have Duncan Burke from the NSW Chamber deliver a session on getting the most out of your membership.
Your business needs to review profit and loss and the Chamber has certainly done a much more effective job in this area over the past few years, but we need to do a better job of gaining an insight into what the customer wants. We want your feedback via the questionnaire, so keep an eye out for it in your inbox.
