At the first round of the Supercars’ annual Enduro Cup – the Sandown 500 – Heimgartner and team-mate Aaren Russell placed 19th.
But according to the young Kiwi driver, his #3 Holden Commodore had the pace to make the team a threat at the Bathurst 1000.
In the closing stages the 21-year-old was lapping a second faster than the three cars immediately in front of him.
”The car was pretty speedy and we were in a good position, and are in a good position to work from here to continue improving,” Heimgartner, who made his Bathurst 1000 debut in 2014, said. “At the end there we were going faster and faster, so I was a second of a lap quicker than the three guys in front of me.
“Even though it didn’t all go to plan, we made some fair improvements and the Bathurst 1000 can’t come soon enough!”
