A man will face Maitland Children’s Court on Wednesday after he was charged with common assault, following an alleged incident involving a five-year-old girl.

The man, who was listed as having no fixed home address, was arrested in High Street on Monday.
Police will allege the man approached a woman and her five-year-old daughter at a bus stop at about 2.40pm.
Police will also allege the 54-year-old reached out and touched the mother before he touched the child.
Patrolling officers later arrested him near a Central Maitland shopping centre and he was refused bail.
The matter was due to be mentioned in closed court at Maitland Court House on October 12.
The man cannot be named for legal reasons.
Police said the woman and child should be commended for their bravery in helping police.
