The state government has allocated $500,000 to make the intersection of Maitland Road and Duffie Drive, Cessnock, safer.
The funding came after 16 crashes that caused 12 injuries at the intersection in the five years to December, 2015.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said the proposed changes had been designed to minimise the impact on vegetation and all road widening would be carried out on the southern side of the intersection.
“The proposed upgrade includes providing a single lane roundabout and widening the road to retain the left turn lane into Duffie Drive,” he said.
