Consignments lifted by 130 head in what was a very mixed quality penning. Young cattle suitable to restock made up the bulk of the offering.
Well finished heavy grown steers were scarce, while there were a few dairy bred manufacturing steers. Cows were limited.
The condition of the young cattle varied greatly, however well finished cattle suitable to the trade were in limited supply.
Market trends varied through the young cattle with lightweight vealers to restock generally selling to a cheaper trend where quality was a factor.
There were odd sales that remained firm with breed contributing. There were varying trends in the lightweight yearling steers to restock, and breed was a factor along with some extra competition.
This saw most classes sell to a dearer trend although some were cheaper, mostly those carrying more condition and weight.
Medium yearling steers to restock sold on a firm to slightly cheaper trend. Heavyweights were up to 20c/kg cheaper.
These market trends carried through to the yearling heifers to restock. Despite the limited supply of well finished yearlings, market trends for those to the trade were much cheaper with extra weight contributing.
Grown steers and heifers sold to a cheaper trend for what was a fairly plain quality offering. The cow market was 2c to 16c/kg cheaper with the few well finished medium and heavyweights most affected.
